Effect of a Structured Meal Replacement Program on Weight Loss: An Eight-Week Mobile App-Assisted Intervention.

Why was this study done?
Many studies have supported the notion that a structured weight loss program along with educational support may be one of the best ways to achieve weight loss. This study was designed to examine the effectiveness of a low-glycemic, high-leucine, structured weight loss program along with educational support in the form of online tools.

What did the study find?
Participants following the eight-week program lost an average of 9.7 pounds (1.2 pounds a week) and 37 out of 213 (17 %) obese participants reduced their BMI below 30 by the end of the study to be re-classified as overweight (from obese).
