Why was this study done?

An analytical methodology development for total N-acetyl-L-cyteine (NAC) in multivitamin supplement is necessary for an accurate NAC analysis due to its unstable and easily oxidizing nature.

What did the study find?

An sensitive and reliable High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) test method has been developed for that analysis of total NAC in a multivitamin supplement by (1) adding citric acid to the sample preparation to adjust pH and (2) use dithiothreitol (DTT) instead of sodium metabisulfite as the reducing agent.
